Colorado artist Wayne Lowdermilk revered Albert Bierstadt. Lowdermilk 50 years old when he sold his first painting. He was beginning to enjoy an artistic career when a heart attack took his life at 53. His last painting,” To one who has been long in city pent/’Tis very sweet to look into the fair/And open face of heaven,” whose theme is taken from a John Keats poem is a poignant testament to his deep hues and soaring spaces. This lot is illustrated in The Story of Leanin' Tree on page 91. A copy of the Leanin’ Tree greeting card that features this art work will accompany this lot.Condition Report
