Additional DetailsRod Goebel was a native Texan who succumbed to the spell of Taos, becoming one of the Taos Six. What drove him to paint was the need to communicate his visceral, physical reaction to color in nature. Heavily influenced by Picasso, and working in—and then beyond—the tradition of Fechin and Gaspard, his paintings, whether they are of aspens, snowbanks, or waves, burrow directly and deeply into the viewer’s emotional memory. This lot is illustrated in The Story of Leanin' Tree on page 334.
