Additional Details

Dixie Jewitt’s crazy clockwork horses, welded pieces of rusted machinery, are “found object” masterworks. A life-sized Jewitt horse like Ironfire is sort of irresistible, wanting you to look at it as a horse, to identify its individual components, and to marvel at how the whole thing was done. A horse made out of machinery? Why not? After all, don’t we measure engines by their horsepower? Turnabout is fair play. This lot is illustrated in The Story of Leanin’ Tree on page 452. A copy of the book will accompany this lot
