Additional DetailsA superb painter of life in the American Southwest, Burt Proctor studied with Harvey Dunn in New York, and something of Dunn’s approach—in which the artist builds a composition by applying geometries of thick paint, often with a palette knife—can be seen in Proctor’s work. On the Beach also shares some qualities with Nicolai Fechin, as forms swirl around the beautiful stillness of the woman’s face. This lot is illustrated in The Story of Leanin' Tree on page 394.
